Zoom in on a tram

Melbournites and denizens of other tram- endowed cities may be puzzled by my excitement at seeing a tram in the city.

But Edinburgh's trams are new - passenger service starts in a few months and the trams are testing the lines.  The journey to this point has been long and controversial.  When I returned to Edinburgh in 2010 there were major roadworks in town and bus detours as they laid the tracks (and then relaid some after discovering they had done it badly 1st time).  So having all the roads working and seeing trams is a great sign of progress.  And I am excited to see a tram and look forward to riding on one later this year.

Looking forward to seeing other zoom in zoom out images this week - telling stories and showing the beautiful and marking the season and celebrating everyday life - all welcome.

Trams are fun ... until you have to drive alongside of them!
Ours are all new now too - except for the city circle ones and the restaurant ... lost a bit of charm with the flash ones, not to mention no more tram conductors.

The roadworks are terrible! But trams look fun. I'm looking forward to a trip on one

These look lovely, shiny and new! A lovely ZIZO and glimpse of Edinburgh too. Now if WordPress was working you could see my ZIZO!! Ah well, it's had a little rest now so I'll try again.

I do like a tram (although I'm secretly glad that London binned the idea a few years ago!).

Love the trams! I'm reading a mystery series set in Melbourne and people are always hopping onto trams. I know we have them in the US but they seem so interestingly foreign to me.

Nothing but buses here. It's a great pair of photos. Nothing but snow (I"m complaining again) here. We're in the midst of a blizzard. Maybe tomorrow I'll be brave enough to go outside and take some photos.

I love how the tram is coming right at me in your pair of photos!
San Francisco has all manners of buses, trams and trains. I love them all. Just wish they would run on time!

Wow, I can't believe a big city would go to the trouble of the roadworks involved in putting trams in, I wouldn't think they would be that different from running buses. My daughter now catches a tram and train to school each day and so I am regularly reminding her to be careful stepping off - out in the burbs we step straight off the tram onto the road and sometimes the cars don't stop.

Having just experienced roadworks in Nottingham where trams are being installed I feel the pain of the Edinburgh residents. However once it's all up and running trams are brilliant! But then I'm used to Manchester's/Amsterdam's trams and yes, you have to watch out when driving or cycling but that makes things even safer for pedestrians! Hoping to visit Edinburgh for the first time later this year (Mum's 80th treat) ... I wonder if they'll be ready by then?

A couple of great zizo photos Helena! Having grown up with "streetcars" as we call them I'm always shocked when people who come to Toronto are so tickled by them. Mind you our new ones might be something that renews my interest in them. As Amy says - driving beside them though is not fun. :)
