a Minimalist challenge

a real challenge from Bonnie this week for PhotoArt Friday when she invited us to try minimalism.  Choosing a photo that might work was the first challenge but I found a few that seemed to meet the remit of being uncluttered and showing the essence of something.  I went with a bleak seascape (the only kind I see at the moment with the grey weather) and a string of geese flying overhead.

I cropped to remove distractions and then faced the challenge of how to process them. I felt that texture would move away from the unadorned nature of minimalism so I turned to photo filters and layering duplicates of the image.

I think they fit within the minimalist fence.

I found this challenge hard, but then minimalism doesn’t call to me.  Thanks to Bonnie for encouraging me to try something other than my norm and interested to see what others do.

Well, Helena you are awfully good with things that don't call to you! Both of these are exquisite to my eye - but things that are minimal and monochromatic speak to me. Just love your treatment of the first image!!

really lovely, Helena. it is good that you know yourself so well and step up to try something that isn't exactly your first choice. often I find it is through my own willingness to BE surprised that I learn myself most.
BEautiful!!

You have patience to sit and wait for them to fly overhead in lousy weather!

Yes, these 'simple' geese fit the bill (pun intended) for this weeks challenge. Nicely captured!

For someone who does not like minimalism, you do it very well! I really like the layers of soft watery grey in that top one.

Both pieces are quite nice. The first is like a painting and I love the geese in the 2nd one. These are snow geese and we seldom see them pass through our way.

It may not call to you, but you've done a grand job with it! I love the first one especially :)

Such beautiful editing Helena. Fortunately you haven't asked me to choose a favourite because I can't. They would look fabulous on my wall. x

They are both beautiful in a bleak way. They contain a lot of raw emotion.
