Playing with colour again

I’ve been playing again with the design seed palettes and multi layer flowers that I posted about last week.

I was interested in the different impact when I use the same palette but place the colours in a different order and created some pleasing pairs which I then placed together



and I thought the design called out for words

I think I could create a great series of cards this way.  Any suggestions for quotes that would work well with these images?

While my main creative space is my computer, I’ve been creating across a range of media recently – concurrent multi-media rather than the normal kind, I guess

I’ve liberated my art. 

I had the postcards printed with Moo and was very pleased with the ease of the online process and the quality of the cards.  I used the minimum quantity – 20 – and chose 10 images to print.  They came out at 50p (74c US) each. I’ve sent off the requisite 5 to Kat and am looking forward to receiving 6 back in April.  Sign up is open until 17 March if you’ve been thinking about participating and haven’t done so yet.

I finally found a knitting group that I enjoy – with the right combination of relaxed about the knitting; snacks they bring and chat topics.  Over half the members are new to knitting so I spend some of my time each session helping others with their knitting.  Last week I taught someone to crochet – she was so pleased as she has been trying to learn for months and finally made a 2 ring granny square.   I’m knitting squares for a South African charity which sews them together to make blankets for orphans, and most of the new knitters have decided to create squares as they learn different techniques too.

I strung some amber beads that my Mum has had for years. 

I alternated the amber with pairs of small bright beads from my stash – the result is lovely and bright (for spring if it ever appears). I made it really long so that I can create a big knot as in the image or loop it round my neck twice.  It also means I didn’t have to fiddle with a fastening.  I strung it on embroidery thread – also from my stash.

My Nan turns 95 this week.  She’s too frail for a big party like she had for her 90th but she will enjoy receiving lots of cards and recognition of her age.

I had a look in the shops for a 95 card but there are very few and non appealed.  I had the same trouble trying to find a 50th wedding anniversary card earlier this year.  Surely neither event is so rare that the card companies can all but ignore them.

Anyway I decided to make a card instead so gathered some supplies in gold and red – my Nan’s favourite colours.  She likes bling too but I didn’t have any in my stash.  The numbers are sold to put onto wheelie bins – I thought they would make a good stencil and make the number the real star of the card.

I used the gold for the card base; cut the numbers from the red; added gold ink to the flowers.  I used foam tape to attach the numbers.

It’s on its way in the mail now to make sure it is there by Saturday.

and this one has 4 generations – my Mum is on the left and my Nan’s stepmum is sitting.

colour bloghop–July edition

I decided to design a card this month – unusual for me, but that was how the muse took me when I sat down at my computer to create.

The canvas texture is from Kim Klassen, the stamp is from Kate Pertiet and the font is Stamp Act.

recipe for success

 

On Thursday Rinda at Gallo Organico posted a recipe for making a card using those papers that have a picture like an old card.  I have some of these sheets in a book of papers I was given and a card challenge felt doable so I collected the ingredients and off I went.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I was very pleased with these two cards I made and it was easy.  The sticker words on the right are ‘thank you’ with 3 stars and the ribbon really is red and does lie flat now.
