me on Monday

waving to blogland friends on a wet Monday morning after a weekend of taking a plant to my Mum, watching rugby on TV and lots of crochet.  I finished the piece that I shared last week prior to unravelling a large section – and here is the completed piece - tada

what’s it for, you may wonder?  I’m inspired by this cartoon which reminds us of the usefulness of happiness – I need to block it and stiffen it and then I’ll put it on a wall to enjoy and smile at.

My weekend was also filled with thoughts of Vanuatu and the terrible hurricane that caused such destruction. It is a popular holiday spot from New Zealand and I’ve been there 3 times. I loved the friendly people, the fabulous food and the stunning scenery. I went back to look at my photos of my last visit in 2009 – here are some of a village on one of the smaller islands and my hotel cottage in the main city (top left).

Hearing reports that every building has been damaged is hard to comprehend.  In my experience they are a resilient and positive people.  With an aid operation underway I hope that they can rebuild their houses and economy.

Your lovely crochet piece has a real Yin/Yang feel to it! And yes, such destruction is hard to imagine ... Hoping we can rally round, in the rest of the world, and support them.

It is so hard to imagine such devastation and I wonder just how the people recover...
Your crochet piece is fabulous and the cartoon, perfect and exactly how I feel. Waving from an overcast Weston.

I love that design. Yes we have all been saddened by the devastation. My older daughter was particularly concerned because a friend she made in New Zealand was visiting there but thankfully is safe.

Helena, I honestly thought you had blocked it, it looks so good. First glance, I said to myself - ooh, she's gone all fancy and blocked it too lol!

Yes, I'm very sorry to hear about the devastation. It's hard to imagine

That piece is stunning! I hope you'll post a photo of it hanging on the wall when you're done! It seems like one disaster strikes after another. Hard to imagine that kind of devastation.

Catching up with reading posts Helena, and I love this crochet piece. No wonder you want to hang it on the wall, it is a masterpiece and so cheerful. The cartoon is very appropriate!
It must be even harder to hear news of disaster when you know the area or have a connection with it. People are resilient and it amazes me that UK friends I know stay in Christchurch NZ despite the uncertainty of what may come.
