Liberated art

Over the past few weeks I’ve enjoyed receiving postcards from various artists thanks to Kat’s wonderful Liberate Your Art annual postcard swap, and now we are sharing our experience and cards on a bloghop over several days

First to arrive was this wonderful seascape from David Morel

cards-3

then a fabulous bird from Kate

cards-4

and some seagulls from Patricia

cards-1

a week later Charlotte’s celebration of the Year of the Horse arrived

cards-5

followed by the disco queen collaged bird from Lisa

cards-2

and then Kat’s beautiful autumn leaves

cards-6

All sitting on my bookshelf and prompting a smile when I walk past them.  Thank you Kat for organising this lovely swap and to all the artists whose cards I received.

I loved receiving the cards and making contact with each person and visiting new blogs and photo collections.  I really appreciate the new connections from the liberated art.

But my experience has not been 100%.  I can’t help feeling disappointed that I have not received a single contact from people who received my cards.  Last year I heard from 2 of the 5 and was disappointed.  This year I have not heard from any of them.

Am I wrong in expecting an e-mail from the people who receive my cards?  I’m interested in the broader practice – if you participated in the swap, how many acknowledgment e-mails did you receive?

You received such beautiful cards! This is my first LYA too, and yes, I've had blog comments from 2 recipients of my cards (I had my blog address printed on the back of the card). Maybe some people are waiting for this blog hop before they get in touch...
Lovely to meet you through the swap and Happy Easter from England x

Love your collection of cards. I had two people thank me on Face Book for the cards. But I didn't thank anyone for theirs. I do a lot of mail art and I swap with a few people who I know nothing about except their mailing address. No email or blog info. I usually post their work on my blog and consider it a thank you. I don't know what the right response is. I view it as an art project\movement, not on a personal level. So I guess that's were I fall. But I see your point, we did send personal messages.

You received some wonderful cards. I saw my card on the group FB page and she visited my blog, but that is the only person I've heard from. It is so nice to make the connection. I've tried to visit blogs and flickr if I have the address and thank folks for their card. I enjoyed the swap and will do it again next year.

It's great fun to hop around to see what everyone sent and received. I'm still looking for who received mine. Hope they pop in soon! Aloha

Wow- Kat must have known you were a bird-lover. I really like the robin and the collaged bird.

I participated too and got 3 thank yous for my card(or more if I have forgotten!). It is nice when people make the effort. I tried to thank people too, but for 2 of the cards I received there was no email or blog, or the email address was not legible.

Hi, those are all great. I only saw one of my cards on FB. I haven't heard from anyone else or seen them on any of the 43 blogs linked so far. I contacted every person who I received a card from and also posted them on FB and now on my blog. I guess that part of it just isn't important to many of the participants :(

it's interesting to read the comments here today. The cards are all beautiful and I can't imagine NOT contacting anyone I had an address for to thank the sender. I always get in touch when someone sends me something, but it's true I have had swap experiences when I didn't hear from a recipient..

It is true you expect to hear back from those you share with but for me I have come to understand not everyone is as comfortable with social media, blogging and technology. So I keep post the cards I received and being sure the small part of the swap I can impact I do. I love seeing everyone's cards and know no matter what somewhere my litte pieces of heart are being enjoyed!!!

This is only my second year and I didn't realize I could contact someone in return by email. I tend to visit their website and leave a comment if that info is there.

I understand the reward of knowing where your card has landed, but it's safe to say that your postcard has sent a ripple out in a good way.

Hi Helena! Thanks for posting about getting my card and others. And thanks for contacting me when you received it. I'm sorry no one contacted you, since that is part of the fun, but I did find a card that I think is yours on the blog hop from this person: http://twilphotography.blogspot.com/

Such interesting pieces! This is so much fun. See you next year!

Loved your post and I, too, have only seen one of my cards - on FB- and no one has contacted me that I know of. I still love the swap and hop and still have hope!

You got some lovely cards. I don't really participate too much in swaps - just the one Sian organized but if I did I know I'd do my best to thank who ever sent me something.

You're not alone. I haven't heard from anyone who received one of my cards either, nor have I seen any on the blog hop or the Facebook page. It is disappointing, though I did receive (as you did) some lovely cards myself!

I also only know where two of my postcards went - one was posted on the group FB page and the other in the blog hop. I'd love to know where the other three went.

I've contacted everyone I received a postcard from, and posted pictures of all the cards in my blog hop post.

Oh well, it was still fun to find the postcards in the mail, and I'm enjoying the blog hop and seeing all the other are that was liberated :-)

It is so much fun seeing all the art that was liberated! You got a great set. I finally finished contacting everyone whose cards I received today. Through the hop, I heard about one of mine. That's it so far.

I can't help thinking that Liberate Your Art means letting go ... but it's still good to know that your cards reached their destinations.

Netiquette is no more equally understood and adhered to than everyday manners. Sadly I think that people are BUSY and spread themselves too thinly and so many things are transitory that they are forgotten almost instantly.

Maybe you'll prick a conscience or two today?

What a lovely group of cards! I had to wait two days before I could start the hop, and I was so excited to see what everyone shared! I have contacted a few of my senders, unfortunately I have not heard from one of them. She said she wanted to know where her cards landed, so I hope she is well, and maybe sees my message on the facebook page.
I always include contact info. And I like that we gather on facebook, as another way to hopefully connect. I do not think it is wrong to hope for a communication from those who received your cards. After all, it is not just abut Liberating... but connecting. At least, I would hope so. :

Happy creating to you - hope to see you again next year :)

I keep saying this, but as I work my way through all the blogs, I'm finding postcards I haven't seen before. I'm still hoping to find mine or at least one of them here in the blog hop. You received some beauties. See you next year!

Just stopping by to say hello. Nice cards.

Gorgeous cards!

My experience was like yours - I was a bit disappointed that I didn't hear from people who received my cards. I don't use Facebook much, but I did go and look at the posts there and found one of my cards. Oh well. As some other people said above, it was still fun to send and receive the postcards.

I would like to say thank you and do try to but I've learned that others don't feel that is necessary. So I try to view it as putting things out there and hope it gives someone a smile and not worry about a reply.

I somehow missed this post Helena, but glad I found it now. What lovely postcards, no wonder they make you smile.
