Snap 1

A new year and a new theme for Wednesday.  My idea for Snap is a visually linked set of between 2 and 4 images.  The set can be based on colour or shape or subject or ... let's see what we collectively come up with over the year.

I was thinking about what I would use for my first snap while on my daily walk and looked at the clock on top of the school sport pavilion - and thought it would make a good subject as I also regularly see several other clock towers.  I liked the idea of using clocks given how important the clock face is for marking the new year.

Top left is the one I see on my walk, top right is in the city and clock which we gathered near for New Year when I was a student in Edinburgh, bottom left is on the old town hall on my local high street and for the last I went to my photo archive for the lovely clock tower at the University of Auckland (NZ) where I worked for 15 years.

Looking forward to seeing how everyone uses this new theme.

  1. What a diverse and interesting set of clock towers. I like the way you have the idea of time to the New Year and then one of the clocks to your New Year as a student. Would I be right in thinking that the celebrations you attended there were more low key than the fireworks of today? I remember going to Trafalagar Square in those days. Bottom left is an interesting one. It looks rather like it has its hat on!

  2. I like this collection. Every time I see a clock tower it takes me back to the one on our school building: copper turned green.

  4. A nice assortment. I definitely have a "thing" for clock faces. This is helpful in giving me a better idea about what you are contemplating with Snap, as well.
Happy New Year and thanks for hosting!

  6. A wonderfully appropriate start, Helrena, and such a glorious subject. I think there could easily be a 'clock towers around the world' meme developing here :). Your Auckland photo conveys such light and graceful architecture ...
